For Christmas Gifts, Robes Have Him Covered

For Christmas Gifts, Robes Have Him Covered

By Carleton Varney- Special to the Palm Beach Daily News

Christmas is just around the corner and I am working on my gift list.

Last year, I gave friends and family picture frames, which are always welcome as presents, I think. But this year, most of my gifts will be soft, cuddly bathrobes.

So with my list at the ready, I was off to Kassatly’s at 250 Worth Ave. The store, the oldest on the street, has so many wonderful robes, whether the choice is cashmere, lamb’s wool, terrycloth or silk.

I don’t think you can go wrong giving a robe. There are so many colors to choose from — maybe Christmas scarlet and emerald — with great trims. And think about prints and quilted versions, too.

The Kassalty brothers, Edward and Robert, have everything for the bedroom and bath. You can find pajamas for adults as well as for the little prince or princess in your life. I bought a robe for my grandson that will delight all who see it — and, of course, the little fellow who will be wearing it.

And the store has such a nice selection of table linens, all of the quality that Palm Beachers demand. For Christmas, I liked the napkins that feature all of Santa’s reindeer.

Wouldn’t it be nice for a special dinner guest to find Rudolph at his or her place setting? Or how about a design with toy soldiers or toy trains or poinsettia flowers. There are so many charming Christmas designs, some available by custom order for next year.

When I’m at Kassatly’s, I always enjoy seeing the extensive selection of cashmere sweaters in every possible shade, from lavender to chocolate. You know I love color, whether it’s on a wall or a piece of clothing.

The gift may be lovely, but make sure it’s given a magical presentation. We all remember that in the “The Sound of Music,” Maria von Trapp’s favorite things included “brown paper packages tied up with strings.” But I think Christmas giftwrap calls for color: red and green, silver and gold. Color makes the season all the more festive.
