India Hicks trunk show on tap at Pioneer Linens in West Palm Beach

By Carleton Varney - Special to the Palm Beach Daily News

Many Palm Beachers know India Hicks as a style icon in the fashion arena — she’s a former model — and the home-furnishings field. You might also know that India is a cousin of Prince Charles on her mom’s side of the family tree. Her father was the late interior designer David Hicks. She has a home near Palm Beach, if you consider The Bahamas to be near, as I certainly do.

Jane Cummings lives a little closer to town in a penthouse in one of the condominium towers just across the bridge in West Palm Beach. The views from her home are spectacular from all sides, capturing the ocean, yachts, hotels and sun-filled skies. Jane has been in the style business for many years and her expertise extends to her home, which is filled with chintz, orchids, and country French and English antiques. Jane, who lived at one time in The Carlyle apartments in New York City, once owned the home-fashions boutique called Cache Cache on Madison Avenue. She also has ties to Palm Beach.

So there you have the credentials of these two stylish women. Jane will be showing the India Hicks collection via a trunk show, 1-5 p.m. Feb. 27-28 at Pioneer Linens, 210 N. Clematis St. in West Palm Beach. Those who attend will find India Hicks’ signature fragrances along with scarves of superior quality, some priced at $68. Also on display will be India’s clean-lined jewelry collection, including gold vermeil earrings and handsome rock pieces, as well as charming handbags and satchels.

India prides herself on her duffle bags: They have been created with fabric prints that match the designs that her dad used for rugs back in the 1960s and ’70s. In my mind, memories of the late David Hicks always involve rugs. The geometric patterns were popular then — and they’re still hanging in there. India has also paid homage to her dad in the linings of her treasure-chest boxes and in the patterns of her scarves. Tassels are important to her as well.

Jane Cummings will be joined by Louise Ford, a director with the India Hicks company, to show you all of these goodies.
